Former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins and Seven Network executives have reached the conclusion of contract negotiations and she will remain with the network she has worked for since 2004, despite not having a specific show or job for the superstar model.

Hawkins’ contract finished last month and she is rumoured to have taken a pay cut in her apparent $700,000 to $1 million annual salary, in return for assurances a more permanent role would be developed for her.

She hosted the one-off Make Me A Supermodel series and was a reporter on The Great Outdoors, but the long-running travel show was reduced to just a few specials this year and will remain so in 2010.

It is believed Hawkins, who has agreed to the terms of the contract and will formally ink the deal next week, has been promised ideas are being developed to give her the right project to work on.

Her agent Sean Anderson said the network wanted to re-sign her and she wanted to keep the association with the network, and Hawkins is to be staying with Seven and is looking forward to working with them over the next 12 months of the contract.

He explained that all Jennifer needed to do now was to formally sign the contract, but she has been in Melbourne working on a photo shoot for Myer’s 2010 winter catalogue.

It is understood Hawkins received offers of interest from other networks, but opted to stay with Seven, her second principal employer after the retail giant Myer.

Prior to her taking out the title of Miss Universe, Hawkins, 25, was making only $70 a game as a bright and bouncy cheerleader in Newcastle.

The new Australian Idol judge Jay Dee Springbett has laughed off claims that he’s boring, saying that he does not have the job of being a clown, but the rather serious job of finding new talent.

Springbett has had big shoes to fill, replacing shock jock Kyle Sandilands after he was sacked after a controversial segment where a 14 year-old girl was hooked up to a lie detector and quizzed about her sex life.

Springbett, however, has received some criticism from some fans saying that he’s not as entertaining as Kyle, but he remains unphased by the claims.

But Springbett said he wasn’t bothered.

Jay Dee Springbett said that he was starting to find his feet and that his job isn’t to be a clown, but rather to unearth new talent.

Betting agencies have already began taking bets on who will be the winner of the reality TV singing competition, with Melbourne born, Stan Walker, the current favourite at $4.75.

He’s followed closely by Scott Newnham, a bricklayer from Melbourne, at $5.00 and Kim Cooper from Queensland at $6.00.

Tim Johnston from Newcastle is the least favourite to win at $31.00

Springbett however said it would be quite a while before a front runner, saying that it was too early to tell.

Australian Idol is doing fair in the ratings, but the Sunday night program managed to pull just 883,000 viewers losing some of the viewers to the final of the Seven Network’s Dancing with the Stars, which scored more than 1.5 million viewers.
