A woman from Sydney who fed her children rat poison before suffocating them has been found guilty of manslaughter.

In February last year the bodies of a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl were find in the bedroom of their Canley Heights home in Sydney next to their unconscious mother who had slashed her wrists.

A suicide note, blood-soaked razor, two cups containing green liquid were found alongside the bodies.

The mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons had pleaded not guilty for murdering her two children in February 2008 on the grounds of mental illness.

She claimed that she wanted to kill herself and her children because her husband had betrayed her.

In a judge-only trial, Justice Clifford Hoeben accepted the crown’s contention that while she was not guilty of murder, she was guilty of manslaughter.

He said that he was not persuaded that the extent of her mental illness was not so severe that she could not distinguish right from wrong at the time of the killings.

The woman told one psychiatrist that her husband had betrayed her with another woman that to the suicide attempt and to kill her children.

She allegedly said that she did not want to leave them behind.

Submissions for sentencing will be held on October 9.

A top Australian psychiatrist has warned that convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby will not survive her 20-year prison sentence in Bali’s Kerobokan prison unless she is moved out.

Associated Professor Jonathan Phillips visited Corby this month saying that she was “hanging by a thread”.

”She is lost in her own bewildering world where fantasy, hallucinations and bizarre ideas dominate her mind,” he said.

He went on to say that Corby’s condition would continue to deteriorate unless she was transferred back to Australia and treated in a secure hospital, or failing that, undergoing treatment at a psychiatric facility in Bali.

Dr Phillips is confident that Corby’s condition is genuine.

”I have been a psychiatrist for many years, and I approach my work with proper clinical scepticism.

”She is not putting this on. She is in the deepest of pain and her personal world is coming apart.”

Corby’s family will send the doctor’s report to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and other political figures to push for her transfer.

Schapelle Corby was arrested at Bali’s Denpasar airport in 2004 with 4.1 kilograms of marijuana found in her bodyboard bag.
