1996 Olympic silver-medalist Scot Miller has escaped a jail sentence for drug offences.

Miller, 34, pleaded guilty to supplying a friend with 12 ecstasy tablets and tablets and being in possession of a stolen pill press.

The former Olympic champion had previously told the court of the disappointment he felt at the end of his swimming career which led him to partying and taking drugs.

Miller was given a two-year bond and 100 hours of community service.

The judge acknowledged Miller’s pain that dogged his career, leading to the swimmer becoming depressed and turned to drugs to help relieve psychological pain.

The judge also said that despite confident police work, over a year of scrutiny of Miller was a fizzer as it produced no evidence that he was involved in a large-scale drug syndicate.

Miller said outside court that it had been a very hard time and that he regrets the suffering he caused his family, especially his grandparents.
