Stoned driver has police cover blown by mystical dragons

Stoned enough to pass a police breath test, but apparently not straight enough to keep quiet about the mystical dragons. That was the case for 22-year-old Jay Danny Crawford as he regaled Babinda police with his reptilian recount during a random roadside breath test last month.

Despite recording a negative blood alcohol reading, the allegedly slurring and bleary-eyed driver was doing fine until the dragons appeared. According to officers on the scene, Crawford appeared to be fine if a little slow when first stopped and the dragon talk prompted them to invite the toking raconteur to join them on the footpath for further questions.

His wobbly display on his feet sparked more inquires with one officer claiming that Crawford seemed to be taking a very long time in thought before answering questions. In slurred speech he continued his tirade against mystical dragons before being charged with possessing a dangerous drug and driving while under the influence of drugs. A blood specimen was taken at the scene but police are still awaiting the certificate from the Innisfail hospital which presumably is looking for evidence of burn marks or scales.

Crawford admitted to police at the scene that he had imbibed a dangerous drug – or in his words had smoked a couple of cones of hydro. He then handed over his stash, all 0.5 grams of it, wrapped in foil as a safeguard against fire damage.

This latest incident is the second time in a year that Crawford has been pulled over and found to be driving stoned – both times while driving from Cairns to his girlfriend’s house in Babinda. However, he claims to not remember talking about any mystical dragons. Rather, he reasoned, he might have instead been talking about a movie he had just seen in Cairns, before adding that didn’t have any dragons in it either.
