PM Rudd’s website hacked

A hacker managed to bring down the Prime Minister’s website last night in a protest over planned reforms of internet censorship.

www.pm.gov.au was attacked last night along with the Australian Communications and Media Authority, but were both online about an hour later.

The hacker posted a message on the Inquisitor website under an anonymous name, and stated that the act was in response to a proposal to introduce mandatory internet filtering by the Federal Government.

The posting warns that the proposed censorship cold see filtering to the levels seen in China, and some legal content could be blocked.

The post also claimed that Internet speeds would be slowed down by 70 percent.

The hacker asked for Senator Controy to step down and posted a link which supposedly contained a list of websites that would be banned.

A spokesman for Stephen Conroy, Communications Minister, said the campaign mounted was erroneous and misinformed.

He insisted that the Government was proposing to filter refused classification content that included imagers of sexual abuse, rape and bestiality.

A trial has been underway by the Government’s internet filter, which is expected to be completed soon.
