Hey Hey Its Saturday wins ratings battle with MasterChef

The reunion special of Hey Hey It’s Saturday has won the battle of the ratings against Celebrity MasterChef, attracting a total of 2.64 million viewers at its peak.

The long running series has not been aired for over 10 years, and last night’s reunion show attracted an average audience of 2.17 million.

Network Ten’s Celebrity MasterChef attracted a maximum audience of 1.92 million and averaged 1.36 million.

The Hey Hey team ensured that Channel Nine claimed a total 40 percent share of the audience last night during the timeslot.

To put the reunion show’s ratings effort into perspective, the AFL Grand Final was viewed by over 3.62 million viewers.

Channel Nine say that the second episode of the reunion show will air live next Wednesday and will mark the return of Ossie Ostrich.

The return of MasterChef only managed to attract a third of viewers than the final episode of its first season.

Last night, INXS star Kirk Pengilly defeated Indira Naidoo and Josh Thomas to go through to the semi-finals after heat one.

Pengilly spoke of how he lost hair, went greyer, and gained wrinkles after appearing on Celebrity Masterchef.
