Just under 400 revellers were arrested over the two-day Big Day Out festival in Sydney, with one person found carrying 24 ecstasy tablets.
Police officers, including those from the Dog Squad and Commuter Crime unite, focused on alcohol and drug-related crime as well as anti-social behaviour at the festival in Homebush on Friday and Saturday.
Police say that a total of 381 people were arrested, with a total of 104 drug possession charges made, 12 drug supply charges, six assault charges and one malicious damage charge.
Police also handed out nine cautions over cannabis possession, ejected 11 people who were drunk and caught a further 18 who were trying to jump over the fence into the venue.
Paramedics were also kept busy, with a total of 1587 people treated by St John Ambulance volunteers over the two days, while 36 patients were taken to hospital. Many of those being treated for dehydration as temperatures exceed 40C both days.
Police also seized a range of drugs, including cannabis, ecstasy, ice, LSD, cocaine and amphetamines.
In a statement, police said that one person was found entering the venue allegedly in possession of 24 ecstasy tablets.
One police officer said that most festival-goers enjoyed themselves responsibly, but some still hadn’t got the message.
Year after year, the police repeat the same warnings before the event begins however every year there are still people who try to get past and fail.
He concluded by saying that the results also show that anti-social behaviour wouldn’t be tolerated and those charged over the two days would have to face the consequences in court.
